Tell AlternativeTo what application you want to replace and they’ll give you great alternatives, based on user recommendations.

For instance, there’s a great app called Media Inspector for Mac that analyzes your file and gives you a ton of information on it – way more than Finder. But if you’re not on the Mac platform then you need to find the PC alternative. Just type in Media Inspector for Mac and select the tab for Windows and voila – you’ll get a similar app that runs on Windows. In this case it was an app called gSpot.
