Create a Post Project Analysis form 04/06/11
This is a great way to get anonymous and constructive feedback to from your clients and collaborators after you’ve completed your video project.
Using Google Forms, the survey should be constructed based on who the recipient will be. For example, there could be 3 unique surveys for the client, producer and art department. (Note: For these forms to be effective it is crucial your project’s Work Log and Approval Lifecycle be updated during the project).
The key thing is to decide what information you want to gather from the survey. Are you seeking information that will help you improve the communication process, technical procedures, concept development or all of these?
Using a typical client survey as example, your form would look something like this:
When this is filled out by the client it will look like this:
What’s really cool, is that once this form is created, a spreadsheet version is also created. This is really helpful if your client survey will be filled out by more than one person. All of these survey results will be listed in a spreadsheet.
(Note: The only bug (read: FAIL) with this is that your survey does not live on your Google docs homepage. What is there instead is your newly created spreadsheet. And unfortunately it will automatically be named something like: “Copy of BLANK SURVEY TEMPLATE”. Soooo, you will need to change the name of the spreadsheet to match the name of the survey.
Go to your Google docs homepage and find the most recent file named something like: Copy of… In this case it would be:
Copy of: BLANK SURVEY TEMPLATE.
Double-click it to open it.
Mouse over to where it states the name of the project.
Double-click the title.
A window will open showing you the current name of your document
Rename it to your survey name
You will see that the title has been re-named to match your survey title. But what if you want to go back to the survey form you created? Then mouse back up to the top of your document and click on Form (1)
A drop down menu will appear. Click on Go to live form.
Now you should find yourself viewing the image from step
TIPS: And as always, follow up the survey with a phone call or face to face conversation if you can. The idea is that the survey process will help you to reflect on, refine and articulate your role in the collaborative creative process. Hopefully you will see patterns sooner than otherwise – if you would have seen them at all.
