Encryption Buddy is an easy way to password protect and encrypt ANY type of file!

Over the years we’ve written about encryption hacks for video editors. There are step by step instructions on how to encrypt your:

• selected Evernote text
• SplashID password database file
• files on DropBox using TrueCrypt

I like the hack that uses the well-respected Truecrypt software in particular because it’s:

• open-source
• free
• very robust
• on-the-fly disk encryption.

But there are a fair amount of steps to initially set it up that can be a bit of a barrier for many.

That’s why it was nice to find the intuitive, drag-and-drop encryption app Encryption Buddy.

It’s worth noting that Encryption Buddy uses Triple DES which is an older encryption technology.  Whereas TrueCrypt uses the modern AES encryption.

There is a good, short comparative study that was published on the two that are worth checking out.

Encryption Buddy is great if all you need is simple deterrent-level security for a file.  TrueCrypt is better if you need to have military-grade security.
