Filter out the noise on Twitter 04/07/11
Twitter is great but sometimes it can be a lot of noise. You favorites and lists features to save a cache of helpful post-production tips, tricks and links.
Mark a helpful post-production Tweet as a favorite for future reference. These are great for how-to tweets. And make sure to put a hashtag (the # symbol) in front of key words that will help people find your tweet when they are searching for messages with that word.
You can even look at a list of all of your saved Favorites.
Create post-production Lists. This will be all of the editors, preditors, animators, facilities, studios, vendors, etc, that you follow – except now they are all in one feed.
On your Home page click on the Lists tab.
Click on the Create a list at the bottom
You will get a window for creating a new list.
I always make my lists public. And once you click Save List you will see your new list when you click on the Lists tab. (As you can see I repeated the last step and created more lists).
Now, when you get new followers you can add them to the appropriate lists.
This will allow you to view only tweets that correspond to an individual list.
You can also follow other people’s lists as well.
Tips:
These filtering tips were just to get you started but if you are a power user you may want to consider HootSuite. It’s a “social media dashboard” that has more advanced filtering techniques. You can do things like schedule tweets, manage multiple accounts and monitor keywords.
