Rocsafe MX 07/10/12

With an embedded keypad and smart-card authentication, Rocsafe MX is the most secure external drive on the market today.

So you don’t trust Cloud security, but you don’t want to walk around with your external hard drive in a briefcase handcuffed to your wrist.

The Rocsafe MX may be somewhere in between.

The unique embedded keypad allows you to key your PIN directly onto the unit.  This is protection from key-loggers that install malicious code on your computer that records your key strokes.

This, plus the smartcard-based authentication, prevents the drive from being mounted by non-sanctioned users.

The MX has one USB port and two Firewire 800 ports, and supports 2.5″ SATA-1 and SATA-II or Solid State Drives.

Storage capacity is available at 500gb, 750gb and 1TB configurations.  The 500gb and 750gb models also are available at either 5400 or 7200 rpm.

Other highlights:

  • Advanced Encryption Standard Algorithm AES-256 bit key strength, and real-time encryption so that there is virtually zero time in encrypting and decrypting the data.
  • It operates transparently and encrypts all data written onto the hard disk without any loss in disk performance.
  • Designed to be both bootable and bus-powered, and it is compatible with MS Windows and Macintosh environments without any software installations.
  • Rocsafe MX does not require any additional software drivers or applications to be installed and is fully independent of the operating system.

It’s available in the Apple store for $600.
