Sound Design 09/06/12
David Sonnenschein’s book Sound Design has been called “the Bible of Aural Excitement.” I second that emotion.
That a book on audio can be so visual is a testament to the passion of author David Sonnenschein. His book, Sound Design – The Expressive Power of Music, Voice, and Sound Effects in Cinema, is half practical-advice, half waking-dream.
The book goes into the theory and background on sound generation, psychoacoustics, music, voice, image, and narrative.
Interested yet? You might be after reading the sections Temporal Dimensions or the Physical Effects of Sound.
Bottom line: this book will stir your imagination and fundamentally improve the way you manipulate and experience sound.
Here’s a video of Sonnenschein being interviewed by Ric Viers, author of The Sound Effects Bible.
