TechTerms 08/20/12

TechTerms is a free web dictionary of computer and technology terms. Now you and your client can literally be on the same page.

We’ve recently written about a couple of extremely useful glossary apps by Digital Rebellion: Film Terms helps you understand industry terminology and EditCodes helps you understand error messages.

These are great for industry words and concepts but often you’ll come across general technology terms that need clarification.

The goal of the people behind TechTerms is to try and explain computer lingo instead of just define it.

You can search by category:

  • Internet Terms
  • Hardware Terms
  • Software Terms
  • Technical Terms
  • File Formats
  • Bits and Bytes
  • Tech Acronyms

If that’s not enough they even have a rating system they call the Tech Factor:

Each term includes a “Tech Factor” rating from 1 to 10, which indicates how advanced the term is. Terms with low tech factors are common and easy to understand, while terms with higher tech factors may be less common and contain advanced terminology. Terms with tech factors from 1 to 5 are often important to know, while terms with tech factors from 6 to 10 may not be as important.

And like with almost everything else nowadays, you can share these definitions. TechTerms supports Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
