Use forum search engines for more targeted results 04/06/11

Often, when we’re having a technical problem we’ll turn to the web for help.  We look for the answers on forum sites and there are many to choose from.

But it can be exhausting to search each forum for the answer to our problem.  So more often than not we just use Google.

But what are your options when the Google results don’t answer your questions?

Try using a forum search engine.  There are several to choose from and they could provide you with results you wouldn’t have gotten from using Google alone.

There’s Zhift

And also Forum Search

If you still prefer the idea of using a general search engine there’s also Duck Duck Go.  There is much less spam and ads so there’s more room for content.

Another good forum site is Boardreader.

Not to be confused with the still in beta BoardTracker

Tips: If you still to use Google, there is great documentation on how to perform advanced searches.
