Use your iPhone as a document scanner 04/06/11

Use the Prizmo iPhone app to scan your video project documents or passages from your favorite industry books.

I want to be clear that I do not condone the copying of an entire book.  Ethics aside, it’s just not practical.  In fact, thanks to the subscription based site Creative Edge you can have cloud access to the content of hundreds of media related books.

Download and install the Prizmo iPhone app

Open the app and select Text

Select Camera

Take a picture of the text that you want to capture.  (Note:  Try to be as steady as possible)  Once you have a take that you like press Use.

Next, use the Perspective tool to make the picture straight before OCR processing.

This will also allow you to crop out only the portion that you want scanned.

Press Apply.

Prizmo will then start to automagically scan the image.

Voila!  Now you have created editable text from a snapshot!

After making any changes that are needed you are given a variety of delivery options.  You can send the text via email or to DropBox, Evernote or CloudApp.

Before you send it to Evernote or Dropbox you will be given the option of sending the original image or the text only.

Just enter your user name and password and you’re good to go.
